Dev Diary #15 – Call of the Keepers

Greetings, time-travelers! We thought it was about time we shared an update on what we’ve been working on behind the scenes.

Fighting Gold Sellers

Over the past few weeks, a significant portion of our efforts has been dedicated to tackling the recent wave of gold-selling activity (the pesky spammer bots you’ve certainly heard about). We’ve implemented several new systems designed to curb spam bots, improve the detection of real-money trading (RMT) and make it much harder for these operations to thrive on our server. As always, we’d like to remind everyone that buying or selling gold for real money is strictly prohibited. These transactions leave traces and we have become increasingly effective at identifying them. If you engage in RMT, you should expect to be caught and you will lose both your investment and your accounts. Beyond breaking the rules, purchasing gold has a real impact on the project. Dealing with spam bots, investigating suspicious transactions and taking enforcement actions consumes a considerable amount of time from both our Game Masters and development team, time that could otherwise be spent fixing bugs, developing new features and improving the overall experience for everyone. In short, buying gold doesn’t just harm the game’s economy, it also slows down the project’s progress.

Fair Play in PvP

We’re also tightening our checks around PvP, particularly when it comes to the use of automation tools and scripts. If you’re relying on them, now is the time to stop. Our detection systems continue to improve and if you’re caught using prohibited automation, it will be too little, too late.

Ulduar Development

Now for what is probably the update you’ve all been waiting for. With the recent security work behind us and Wintergrasp’s infamous friendly-fire bug finally resolved, we’ve been able to shift our focus almost entirely onto Ulduar. Development has intensified and we’re working at full speed towards a release. Our current priority is clearing the remaining major encounter blockers. At the time of writing, only a handful of bosses still have significant issues left to resolve, Yogg-Saron being one of them, unsurprisingly. Once those are behind us we’ll turn our attention to polishing the remaining issues and fine-tuning the overall raid experience. We know Ulduar is one of the most beloved raids in Wrath of the Lich King and expectations couldn’t be higher. We’re putting in the work and taking the time necessary to deliver a release that lives up to those expectations.

Thank You

Finally, we’d like to thank everyone who has contributed through testing, bug reports and feedback. ChromieCraft would not be where it is today without your continued support.

As we get closer to release, your help will become more valuable than ever. Whether it’s reporting bugs, testing pull requests or simply putting new changes through their paces on the PTR, every contribution helps us deliver the best Ulduar experience possible.

Thank you for travelling through time with us. We look forward to sharing a release date for the raid, very soon.
